Countdown to WWE Royal Rumble 2016: What if Brock Lesnar Wins?

We’re counting down to the Royal Rumble: a variation of the traditional Battle Royal match with a total of 30 competitors. Two WWE Superstars start in the ring, every 90 seconds thereafter another Superstar enters. A Superstar is eliminated when they’re thrown over the top rope and both feet touch the floor. Traditionally, the last remaining Superstar is guaranteed a championship opportunity at WrestleMania versus the current WWE World Heavyweight Champion. On Jan. 24th the Champion is required to defend his title in the Royal Rumble match; the first time its winner claims gold since Rumble ’92. | By Mr. Joe Walker

“The Beast” Brock Lesnar is unquestionably the favorite to win this year’s Royal Rumble. And if history again repeats itself, the WWE World Heavyweight Championship is as good as his. Winning Rumble ’03 by eliminating Undertaker, Brock went on to claim the title at WrestleMania 19. Ending Taker’s iconic undefeated streak at Mania 30 led to him decimating John Cena for the title the following Summer Slam. Brock finished off The Dead Man in supposedly their final battle at last year’s Hell in a Cell. Are you following the trend?

Should a reign with WWE’s top prize actually come to pass, Ziggler should ditch the smiles and fan pandering. Once rumored to pair with Ric Flair, this would be a welcomed reality; The Showoff with Charlotte as his equally evil Divas Champion counterpart, and Flair as their guide. Ziggler would really be showing the world.

Every competitor in this year’s Royal Rumble match, especially WWE World Heavyweight Champion Roman Reigns, should have serious concerns regarding Bray Wyatt’s entry. It’s safe to say he carries low regards for everyone on the roster, especially Reigns. Wyatt’s said himself he’d stop at nothing to prevent The Big Dog from succeeding. With his Wyatt Family flock joining in in the fray, Roman and everyone else could be in serious trouble, the kind that leads to The Eater of Worlds leaving with the title.

Having crossed the boss, Vince McMahon, he’s forced to defend the title against 29 other Superstars in the Royal Rumble match. Keep in mind Reigns won the previous Rumble, the odds are not entirely insurmountable. Having gone through setback after setback fighting to gain the championship, The Big Dog will no doubt fight harder to keep it. Depending on his entry number, he could survive. We’ve seen him topple multiple opponents before. On the other hand, this time around everyone’s gunning for him. They’d surely team up to toss him out.

Kofi outlasting his competitors in the Royal Rumble to claim the WWE World Heavyweight Championship would undoubtedly move to the top of his highlight list, one Kofi himself would likely replay over and over. It’s the only title to elude him, and with New Day backing him this would be his greatest opportunity. With so many of WWE’s top brass on the shelf due to injury, a champion Kofi and company antagonizing whomever is his top contender could make for an entertaining WrestleMania main event.

There’s a short list of favorites to win this year’s Royal Rumble match. Kevin Owens is on it. His intentions have been clear since joining WWE; he’s come to be the best wrestler in the company, and the savvy, outspoken vet has no issue owning that claim already. Should he enter and win the Rumble match, claiming the WWE World Heavyweight title, the gold around his waist would legitimize his boasts. As champion, Owens and career rival Sami Zayn could ignite the type of title feud WWE hasn’t experienced since Triple H and Shawn Michaels. He could also close Mania in a rematch with Reigns, or defending against the likes of The Rock or Brock Lesnar.
